COMMERCIAL
The range and scope of works continues to be varied, both in terms of cost and complexity. Some of the commercial projects we have undertaken have included small scale works for independent businesses to major refurbishment projects following successful tender procurement processes.
Our commercial and industrial services include, but are not confined to:
Some of the clients we have worked with in the Aberdeen area are John Clark Motors, DM Hall and Sainsburys. Projects have included:
Building in conservation areas using locally sourced materials such as granite and sandstone, is a skill.
Since 2007, KMS Construction has carefully and successfully completed projects within designated conservation areas in Aberdeen City and across Aberdeenshire.
Our stone masons use the traditional Punch method which is the technique applied to flatten the face of the stone. Punched stone is used for stone walls and can also be applied to quoins, heads and cills, gateposts and coping stones.
Working with traditional materials such as slate, sandstone and granite requires a level of experience beyond the normal building skill set. Stone crafting is, as the name suggests, a craft where the stone is shaped using a hand chisel, making the stone more durable. Our stone masons know how to dress and split stone, understand which type of lime mortar to use (lime mortar is primarily used in the conservation of buildings) i.e. hydraulic lime or non-hydraulic lime).
Common problems by not understanding the true nature of traditional materials can lead to:
Clients have engaged KMS to undertake both remedial and new work on their listed buildings because of our extensive knowledge in this area. These have included:
When the frontage of a building needs to be chemically cleaned, Aberdeen Council does not permit the use of acid based cleaning fluids. KMS only use non-acid based, mild cleaning solutions and which has enabled us to work successfully with Council whilst adhering to its regulations.
The City Council also demands a top quality finish to any building which is within the conservation or listed building status. Any work carried out on a listed building or property within a designated conservation area needs to be approved by the Council. We are pleased to have worked successfully with the Council on a number of projects since 2007.
